This museum offers its visitors a time trip of an experience into the history of Kemi and its vicinity. The permanent exhibition ”A Town by the Sea and a River” familiarises visitors with quite a rich local heritage in languages ranging from English and Swedish to German and Russian. The museum paints a vivid picture of the area’s history and development from the days of geological uplift and first settlements through industrialisation to today. On your visit, you can breathe in the atmosphere of old Kemi in peeking at a historical barbershop & hairdresser’s, police museum and the very first pharmacy inside of their respective vitrines. The collections of the museum are made up of about 78,000 items and records since 1938. Furthermore, a spare gallery for touring exhibitions always offers something novel to behold.
